Where is physics going? | Sabine Hossenfelder, Bjørn Ekeberg and Sam Henry
00:00 Introduction
02:43 Sam Henry | Recent experiemental data suggest physics beyond
05:35 Sabine Hossenfelder | Phycisists need to change to move forward
09:41 Sam Henry | Cosmology has become path-dependent
12:21 Why had progress in the foundations of physics stalled?
22:16 Are the failures to find conclusive evidence a cause for panic?
37:29 Would changing the Standard Model have wider implications?
Since the 1970s we have understood the world through the lens of the Standard Model and its account of the forces and particles that make up the universe. The theory correctly predicted the discovery of quarks, force particles and most recently the Higgs boson. But a series of deep puzzles have emerged. The theory does not explain gravity, dark energy or dark matter. The quest for supersymmetry and a theory of everything to simplify the Standard Model's random complexity has failed. And now, even more ...
